Staff at Atlantic Aviation Group are celebrating the news that apprentice Ben Lucas has been named as a joint winner of the IrelandSkills National Competition in Aircraft Maintenance. Ben’s win continues a remarkable run for the company which has seen their apprentices claim the last four national skills titles and the last two WorldSkills titles on the global stage.

Known as the skills Olympics, the competition has been running for over 60 years attracting the world’s best apprentices to compete on the highest stage. The 3-day competition sees competitors tested on seven areas of aircraft maintenance expertise.

Atlantic Aviation Group CEO Connor Flanagan saluted the win saying, “Ben is a remarkable young man and we are delighted for him on his magnificent achievement. His win adds to the legacy of our apprenticeship which has being providing a world class education to young people for nearly 30 years.”

The announcement comes as the company released details that they are now accepting applications for their aircraft maintenance apprenticeship for 2017. The 4-year paid apprenticeship, which is run in conjunction with the Limerick and Clare Education Training Board (LCETB), includes practical on-the-job training at the company hangar as well as off-site theory and workshop based learning.

More information about the apprentice programme and details on how to apply is available by clicking here. Places on the programme are limited and demand is high, so it is recommended that anyone interested should apply as soon as possible. Closing date for receiving applications for the apprentice programme is Friday May 12th.
