This role will take on a senior role within the Facilities & Tooling Department and in collaboration with the Facilities Projects & Tooling Manager, will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of Tooling Engineering & Ground Support Equipment (GSE), ensuring objectives are met or exceeded in all projects, work tasks and activities. The successful candidate will be a role model, a leader and problem solver who leads the team to achieve goals and objectives.
Essential Job Function
- Responsible for the interface between the Tooling & Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Engineering and Production for assigned Project layovers.
- Coordinate the various Tooling & Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Engineering functions within the Department, ensuring effective use of personnel, tasks and activities.
- Perform Tooling & Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Engineering duties on an ongoing basis.
- Responsible for the review and assessment of the list of new routine and special tooling required for Aircraft Layover projects.
- Ensures that the Team achieves optimum performance, through ongoing support and coaching.
- Develop and implement action plans to address any issues impacting departmental performance.
- Be responsible for addressing all people related matters as they arise.
- Participate in the recruitment and selection process for open roles as required.
- Assist in the training of new employees and the ongoing development of the team.
- Conduct performance reviews for team members.
- Responsible for the teams’ leave to ensure all leave is scheduled correctly and that Operations are correctly supported.
- Supply required information to Tooling services to support them in sourcing loan tools for the layover project.
- Source loan tooling availability for project layovers.
- Support Tooling Technicians on planned maintenance procedures and scheduling and monitoring.
- Support outsourced calibration provider on calibration processes and procedures.
- Using the slot schedule, be responsible for the assignment of aircraft docks, jacks and other necessary equipment.
- Manage authority and customer quality audits.
- Responsible for raising purchase requisitions as required.
- Responsible for cost awareness and cost control on assigned projects and running costs.
- Responsible for the liquidation and replacement of aircraft specific tooling.
- Management of contractors providing on site services.
- Promotes a culture of continuous improvement and participates in Lean initiatives and projects within the Tooling & Ground Support Equipment (GSE)
- Continuously review and identify systems and procedures that impede performance and lead process improvements in these areas.
- Ensure a high standard of Quality, House Keeping, Health & Safety and Tool Care is maintained in accordance with regulations.
- Lead and assist in projects as assigned by the Facilities Projects & Tooling Manager.
- Deputise for the Facilities Projects & Tooling Manager.
- Other tasks and responsibilities as required by the Facilities Projects & Tooling Manager.
Candidate Requirements
- Must hold an Engineering degree.
- Ideally have a minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role.
- Previous experience of leading people would be an advantage.
- Be able to lead and motivate people, with strong interpersonal skills.
- Good technical and mechanical skills.
- Experience with material resource planning systems is an advantage.
- Able to work efficiently under pressure with excellent planning and organisational skills.
- Be customer focused both internal and external with good interpersonal skills.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
- Robust proven problem solving skills and ability to work to tight deadlines.
- Strong IT Skills with experience working with modern ERP Systems.
- Have a strong work ethic, be reliable, focussed, self-motivated with a positive attitude.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment handling multiple tasks with excellent attention to detail.
