Duties and responsibilities are, but not limited to the following:

General Responsibility

The Principal Safety & Quality Engineer is responsible for monitoring the quality and safety management systems, including the associated feedback systems and deputising for the Head of Safety & Quality during periods of absence.

The Principal Safety & Quality Engineer will provide the necessary degree of authority when dealing with quality and safety matters and has direct access to the Accountable Manager to ensure that they are kept properly informed on safety, quality and compliance matters.

Essential Job Function

  • Support the Head of Safety and Quality with the generation and implementation of a Safety & Quality vision.
  • Provide clear leadership and decision making in support of the Safety & Quality vision.
  • Lead the implementation of the AAG DS Safety and Quality Management Systems, as documented and
  • Actively promote a positive and proactive safety culture to improve levels of compliance, which leads to reduction in safety related incidents
  • Provide oversight and continually monitoring of all Occurrence Reports and DASORs and using AAGDS databases to identify adverse trends and take appropriate action to correct adverse performance or concerns
  • Managing event investigations and evidence gathering to identify root causes and issue appropriate recommendations for correction, including coordination of team investigators to achieve priority compliance oversight
  • Manage and coordinate an independent Quality Management System to monitor compliance with MAA, ISO9001 and customer requirements.
  • Implementing a quality audit programme in which compliance with all maintenance procedures is reviewed at regular intervals, in relation to each type of aircraft and component maintained and specialised services carried out, including contracted and subcontracted organisations, and any observed non- compliances or poor standards are brought to the attention of the person concerned via their manager.
  • Issuing and revoking certification authorizations on behalf of the
  • Direct access to the Accountable Manager in the event of any reported discrepancy not being adequately attended to by the relevant person, or in respect of any disagreement over the nature of a discrepancy.
  • Ensuring the MOE is signed and approved formally by the Accountable Manager prior to submission of changes
  • Managing the relationship with the appropriate authorities, customers, and company departments with regards to Safety and Quality matters, including:
    • 3rd party customer and regulatory authority audits as well as working with department managers to ensure compliance with company procedures
    • Conduct audits as necessary
  • Confirming in writing to the MAA at least every 3 years and prior to any formal Surveillance audit undertaken by the MAA, that the contents of our approval certificate and exposition remain If AAGDS Ltd. choose not to exercise the privileges of the approval within a 2-year period, it shall be surrendered unless a contractual requirement for its retention can be demonstrated.
  • With specific reference to the MRP Part 145 approval, the Principal Safety And Quality Engineer is responsible for:
    • Assessing sub-contractors for extension of the quality system fand maintaining the expertise necessary to be able to do so, to the satisfaction of the MAA.
    • Assessing external specialist services required to be used by the company in the performance of maintenance.
    • Assessing suppliers of new and used components, and materials, for satisfactory product quality in relation to the needs of the organization.
    • Preparing standard practices and procedures for use within the organization, derived from approved sources, and keeping them up to date.
    • Fault analysis in respect of aircraft undergoing maintenance so that any adverse trends are identified and responded to promptly.

Health and Safety

  • Understand individual operational safety and security responsibilities including;
  • Be aware of personal health and safety and the health and safety of others at Including Management responsibilities as required by H&S Manual.
  • Be aware of aviation safety responsibilities with regards to the AAGDS Safety Including Management responsibilities as required by the Safety Management Manual
  • Be aware of aviation security responsibilities with regards to the AAGDS Security

Candidate Requirements

  • Relevant experience in quality and safety management systems in an Aviation Maintenance environment (ie EASA, CAA, or UK MAA)
  • Good understanding of EASA, UK MAA or CAA Part 145 regulations
  • Previous proven experience and qualifications as a Safety Investigator and Quality Auditor
  • Engineering degree/ HND Engineering or similar appropriate qualification
  • People management experience
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to persuade and influence and a senior level
  • Proactive approach to encouraging continuous improvement within an organisation
  • Enthusiastic and self-motivated
  • Able to work unusual hours when
  • Demonstrable experience of Microsoft software
  • Full driving licence

Desirable Skills

  • Previous experience as nominated Postholder
  • Good understanding of ISO9001
  • MEDA trained
  • Sound knowledge of HSE requirements
  • Previous experience managing projects
  • Previous experience of working in a highly confidential working environment

Typical Working Conditions

  • Must satisfy and maintain the required medical standard.
  • Work is performed at the AAG Hangar in Brize Norton.
  • PPE is provided by AAG, and its use is mandatory in the performance of your work.
  • Must satisfy and maintain airport security requirements.
