Meet Laura Coen, Lead Marketing Executive

Laura began her career at Atlantic Aviation Group in 2017 and is a key member of our Commercial team. Laura’s role involves working with various departments in AAG to support commercial objectives and operations. Laura made a significant impact in her role as Marketing Executive receiving a Go Beyond special recognition award and has since progressed to her current role as Lead Marketing Executive. We caught up with Laura to learn more about her experience in Atlantic Aviation Group

Can you tell me about yourself and your career so far?  When did you join the team at Atlantic Aviation Group and how has your experience been?

I joined AAG as a Marketing Executive in July 2017 after completing my Bachelor of Business Studies degree (major Marketing, minor Entrepreneurship) from the University of Limerick. I worked as a Marketing Executive for two years and then had the opportunity to progress to Lead Marketing Executive in September 2019.

The experience to date has been amazing. Having no previous experience working in aviation, I’ve been lucky to learn about our business directly from the experts in aircraft maintenance, Part 21 design, Part 147 training and Part M CAMO – and I still have a lot to learn!

What inspired you to work in aviation (Aircraft Maintenance/Design/CAMO/Training)?

I have always found the aviation industry fascinating. When I saw the opportunity for a marketing position in AAG I was interested in learning more about the services they provided. I also wanted to be part of a growing and ambitious company.

Can you describe to me what it is like to work in your department/team?

The Marketing Strategy team consists of three members – me, our Marketing Executive Sarah and our Transformation & Growth Executive Selena. We are one of the smaller teams in the company, but we work with several other departments in AAG to support commercial objectives and operations. As a support function in the business, our work is quite varied day to day but always an enjoyable challenge. We are lucky that we get to collaborate with so many people in the business which adds a different dynamic to every meeting we have.

Working from home has provided a different experience for me and the team but we still manage to have a laugh in our daily meetings and check in with each other regularly. I do miss the coffee catch ups in the office, but we have had a few virtual ones to fill the void.

What is a typical day at work for you? What are some of your favourite tasks to do/projects to work on?

My day typically starts at 8:00 a.m. with my first Teams meeting, followed by a catch up with the Marketing Strategy team. We review our priorities for the day and give a verbal update on what we are working on as we are involved in different projects throughout the business. It’s good for us to discuss projects as we try to find solutions to any obstacles we have. I try to schedule meetings with departments we support early in the day to allow time to work on tasks later in the day.

Every day is different, there is a lot of variety in my role which I thoroughly enjoy.

What are the benefits to working in AAG?

The opportunity to learn, develop your skillsets and progress your career is a key benefit for me. I’m grateful to have had managers that support my career goals and I’ve been given the opportunity to progress my career within the company. Another key benefit for me is having access to and working with experts through our service offerings. I have gained so much knowledge in the last number of years from simply listening and learning on the job.

What’s your favourite thing about working in AAG?

We are a hardworking and professional team, but we also take the time to have some fun! The people in AAG are always friendly and approachable, I have always felt very supported in my role.

If you could have one super power what would it be?

To end the COVID-19 pandemic. I’m grateful for my health and my job during this time but it is has certainly been a challenge adjusting to this new normal.
